Potato soup with cheese is a filling meal-in-a-bowl, but it can also be a bit of a calorie bomb. Whole milk or cream, mounds of full-fat cheese, and greasy crumbled bacon make for a tasty soup, but at the cost of your weight and health. Davids recipe, using shoulder of pork and pork ribs, tastes great, but I love rabbit and braised chicken, so I added rabbit pieces. I found the thighs in the fridge the next day, as I forgot to add them.... Remove the pan from the heat and add all the chicken to the pan (it's OK if the breasts are stacked). Pour the wine over the chicken, add the buillion cube, cover and place in the oven. Let bake for two hours, then serve, spooning the sauce over the chicken and potatoes. This small restaurant has great food with a French flair, however, the atmosphere is quite noisy and can be distracting. The food, however, is very good if you can tune out the noise. Roasted Beets with Goat Cheese Wontons is a great starter and their coq au vin in a slow cooker is a favorite among the locals. Good service but pricey. If it's Italian cuisine you're looking for this restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a special room for intimate dining. Awarded "Best of" from Wine Spectator. Italian dishes include Bruschetta Toscana, Calamari, and Pizza. Linguine alla Pescatore is coq au vin slow cooker wonderfully delicious. Very impressive presentations. Use something at each meal that will help fill you up. Some cheap ways to do this are with rice, potatoes or Ramen noodles. A good way I have found to make rice is to use either a beef or chicken broth instead of plain water. I like to use chicken and beef bullion cubes, they cost less than the pre made broth. Instead, learn which wines are best for cooking. In fact, many home cooks and professional chefs think that one should never cook with an undrinkable wine. However, this doesn't mean that the cook puts the high-priced vintage in the coq au vin chicken thighs. Mais non! Instead, chefs use a cheaper wine for cooking, typically a dry wine rather than a sweet one (unless the recipe calls for it). And the same basic rule applies: white wine with fish, chicken and pork and red wine with beef, game and other red meats.
